If I had a boss for this website thing, I’d have probably been demoted, fired, or reassigned for having waited so long to check out the Google discussion board about sg, alt.music.gospel.southern (AMGS). It’s worth taking a look at, though I guess having taken so much time before going there, I had inadvertently allowed too many high expectations to built up around it. I was underwhelmed especially by some of the latest stuff (which seemed kind of anemic compared to what one reader called the “AMGS heyday,” though I’m not sure when exactly that was), and I was more than a little turned off by some of the real chumps who still haven’t figured out how to behave in public. That said, there’s a formidable archive of wide-ranging posts, and they’re easily searchable since the underlying site structure is Google’s (but what’s with the odd time gap between December 21, 2002 and February 8, 2004 - maybe some posts got rearranged chronologically; I didn’t get much deeper into things than that today). And to be fair, the same principle that allows the boneheads and Neanderthals to post also allows for a pretty free exchanges of ideas and thoughts among the serious types, even if it is a little daunting to come cold to a discussion that’s been going on for several years and 27,000-odd threads (perhaps the feeling is something akin to stumbling onto several pages of my lines and lines of uninterrupted blocks of posts, which many of you have complained about). Since I’m a compulsive webhead, it’ll be hard for me not to keep an eye on AMGS. So thanks - in advance - to the folks over there who will doubtless provide some fodder for this site.
