OT: figure it out

So back in the day, it used to be my job as the Good Preacher’s Son to change the pithy saying on the plastic-lettered sign out front of the church (”Seven Days Without Prayer Makes One Weak,” “No God, No Peace; Know God, Know Peace,” and perhaps my least favorite: “The Only Way to Stand is Down On Your Knees,” and so on). Perhaps it is this heritage that keeps me on the lookout for the rhetoric of the church sign. For a long time I haven’t seen anything worth really bothering with, but a few days back a local suburban Baptist church had this on their sign: “It wasn’t the apple, it was the pair.” Hmmm. Now I’m genuinely stumped. Well, not totally. I have my own interpretation of this one, but it’s odd, to be sure (both the sign and my interpretation). I’m curious what you think. So give it your best shot. And stay tuned.
