Uncle Remus at this best

I told you Jerry Kirksey was a fine storyteller. Take a look at his most recent yarn about tagging along for J.G. Whitfield’s first sg concert at Carnegie Hall in 1963. It’s well paced, full of vividly drawn details, and at times quite funny (cf the muffler falling off the Dixie Echoes bus in the Lincoln Tunnel). The pictures of Kirksey in his youth are a hoot, too. Too bad there’s not a photo of Hal Kennedy, Glen Allred, Coy Cook and Kirksey all jammed into cab and agog at the spectacle of Greenwich Village.
