I think that by (the Perry's) giving the award to the CF it put the CF in a very awkward position. Even if the gesture was sincere and I assume that it was, it should not have been done. The fan's voted for favorite group/Perry's won. Crabb Family have won numerous award's over the years I doubt that they cared one way or the other about the award.

I'm not sure I understand which group you are accusing if being whiners, I'm guessing you mean the Crabb Family. The whole thing reminds me of the Dove Awards a few years ago when Jason was nominated for Male Vocalist, and the winner (Jeremy Camp, I think) mentioned in his acceptance speech something about what a fantastic singer Jason is, inferring that [the Doves] are a popularity contest and have little to do with who is the "best" singer. What I read into Tracy's gesture was something similar - The Perry's appreciate that they are one of the most popular Mixed Groups, but wanted to acknowledge the huge "talent" of the Crabb Family. I don't think it was a slam on anyone, not the fans, NQC, or anyone else, just a sincere gesture to fellow workers in the harvest.
Sure it's nice to receive the accolades, but isn't it all supposed to be about spreading the Good News of Jesus?
I say congratulations to both of them!

If the fans wanted the CF to have the mixed group award they would have voted for them. To have the Perrys give it away is a insult. I would never vote for them. Thru the years they have whined and whined about everything.

There'll be someone else to come along that will be better than the Crabbs. You guys are just "stuck" on them now. Get over it!

"Finally, the Dixie Melody Boys have a fine, fine lead singer. Who is he?"

His name is Bryan Walker, son of David Walker who has sung with DMB, Singing Americans and Kingdom Heirs over the years. And yes he did do a fine job!

I agree with the others that the Crabbs touch the younger generation when no one else can. But, in my experiences when I was a youth, it's the look that touches them. When I was younger, I looked to the younger groups to listen to. The ones that "looked good". I didn't really much care for the music, as long as I got to see what they were wearing, how their hair was done and so on. Now, when I look back and listen to the music that I claimed to help me find Jesus, I think "what was I thinking?" I was in it because the people looked to suit me. Nothing else. Look at the sites that have message boards about the Crabbs and see for yourself. Topics include what this one was wearing and how old they are and how good they look. One even goes as far to claim himself as "Tara's future husband". They're kids. Don't fly off of the handle now and start shooting me down! The Crabbs can sing, no doubt. And yes, Jason is one of the best male singers to ever hit the stage. I love to hear their music, but I'm at the "in-between" age now where I can say it's good or it's bad because of the quality. Yes, their new album has turned some off because it's different, but it's still good. They're still going to touch lives and they're still going to appeal to the younger generation, because that's where they left it. Their ministries will branch out and each member will touch different ages of people. It's what they are meant to do.÷

As the senior saints abandoned the hall at the start of the Crabb's performance Friday night I noticed several young people moving down to the newly vacated seats. During Saturday night's performance I watched the few young people sitting around me who were being touched by the music. I see no other group in the NQC that will appeal to this generation as the Crabb's have done. MM may think they will be the next group to reach the few youth that attend the NQC, but that isn't likely to happen with the talent they've got now. The NQC board may as well get used to a 1.4% attendance decline (and greater) until they find a way to make their product more appealing to the younger crowd. After last night's final appearance by the Crabbs that will become even more difficult.

A further thought on Friday's concert regarding Brian Free and Assurance. Did anyone else find it a bit excessive to introduce each member of his group as "the best in gospel music?" His bass was the best, his baritone the best, etc. None of it was true, of course. He can be forgiven for considering his son the best drummer, and we will never know about his pianist. I listened closely the entire set and couldn't hear a note he played due to the too loud tracks, so no one can judge his talent based on th is appearance. Then, to top it all off, he allowed himself to be introduced as the "best tenor in gospel music." Please spare me!

Just as an FYI, the last two groups on Thursday, Perrys and Kingsmen performed to as many or less people than the Crabbs. I know it's popular for some Crabb enthusiasts to have a persecution complex on behalf of their group, but I think that once it gets past midnight, certain people will leave no matter what. I disagree with what was said in an earlier response, I like the Crabbs better live. They were quite good on Friday, especially the "less is more" version of "Please Come Down To Me" and their cover of "I Go To The Rock".

I agree that tenor Dallas Rogers of the Dixie Echoes had a strong showing.

There were a lot of special guests this week. The Hoppers had Ronnie Hinson on Friday and Janet Paschal on Thursday. The Chuck Wagon Gang had Lulu Roman on Friday and according to my friend, John Conlee on Wednesday. The Easters had a country singer, whose name I apologize for forgetting, join them on Thursday. I sorta liked it.

I thought the Hoppers were just fine on Friday, "Shoutin' Time" and all.

Greater Vision was good as always, but it's got to the point where I can see "O Holy Night" and "Victory In Jesus" coming. Oh well, at least I those two songs.

I think Gold City has a nice sound, but they should pick one emcee and stick with him.

The exhibit hall was too far away, too sloppy looking, and hotter than the sub basement of sheol. Other than that, I liked it.

This is confusing, I thought I was Jim, but I know I was in Nashville last night, not Louisville.
Anyway, you made me late for prayer group this morning because I made the mistake of logging on to see if by chance you had any reaction to last night's concert, and then got hooked reading it all. Thanks for the update- especially your take on the Crabb Family and their band. You're exactly right on what the Award should be called, and also right why it won't. Yet another documentation of how lame the fan awards are but by no means as lame as the just anounced Diamond awards.
In the past I've referred to the Crabbs as "kids" but you've hit it right on the head with your description of Jason - he is a massively talented man.
Good to see your mention of Justin too -- looking forward to hearing what Daywind does with the new group.
I read about Tracy giving the award to the Crabb Family on DBM's site, be interested to get independent confirmation, though.
God bless, keep up the good work.

You imply the hall was nearly vacant during the Crabb's set due to the lateness of the hour. In fact, there was a mass exodus just before and during their appearance. I heard several people commenting they intended to leave just before the Crabb's appearance.
They are, by all accounts, nice kids with immense talent. But the fact is their recordings are much more listenable than their live presentations, and they have "blurred the lines" a bit too much for most of the audience at this convention.
