Avery, another good post. However, you did leave us hanging a bit on the night you got the poster signed. Did the Cathedrals want to know where/how you got the poster? Did they think it odd that you asked them to sign a poster? Were they gracious in signing it? What was your experience?

How very excellent, Professor...a grand tribute to a courageous and inspirational man. His talents on stage are legendary, but his combination of vulnerability, faith, and candor have endeared him to a wider circle than talent alone ever would have. Talent is a gift from God, and when used for Him, we rejoice. But, when a man handles the worst that life can bring with the grace and humor that Roger Bennett has exhibited, this transcends human talent, and rises to the supernatural manifestation of grace and spiritual maturity. This is your finest post since the tribute to Doug Riley. The prayers of many follow Roger and his family each day, and this will only cause many more to do the same. And now, after you shared with us that you're also a cancer survivor, the same people will be praying for you. Thank you again for such an elegant tribute.

For those of us (me) who have only recently discovered this blog, this post stands as a turning point for me. I have mistakenly believed that you were only interested in denigrating SG music. This post gives a bit of personal insight that has changed my mind about you. I apologize for the previous attitude I had towards this blog, and by extension, you. The line about "rarely" listening to music analytically and critically speaks to me as well, although I am not nearly the deep thinker you are. The parts of your personal journey you chose to share here in this post have opened my eyes to my own tendency to form opinions of people without really knowing them. I humbly ask your forgiveness, and look forward to your continued work on this blog. God bless you.

[...] Sometimes I think Averyfineline revels in his reputation in the Southern Gospel blogosphere. He’s not afraid to say or print just about anything unless it could get him into legal trouble. But every now and then, he’ll post something that soars above the daily rhetoric of scandals and flat notes. Yesterday’s post was just that. [...]

A classy tribute to one survivor from another. And you are right about faith wearing a very human face...it is in fact the only face that faith can wear. As for the meantime, well, we just do what we can do. And as a writer, you have done your best here.
