Wow! I like the comment that reflects my feelings about gospel music, not a lot of interest in gospel music itself, but I love EH&SS singing it. I also get a big thrill out of their antics, and wouldn't want it to be correographed any better than it is, they're so natural and I'm glad they look a little awkward at it--it keeps it real and not overdone. EHSS has led me back to thinking that I can believe again! Their voices are a joy to listen to, their togetherness outstanding--and bring on their movements! Yeah! I HAVE to listen to them every night. What a pleasure they have brought into my life. I would LOVE to see Roy Webb back with them...hope it happens one day...soon! 07-12-08

I have to disagree with those who aren't enthralled with Signature Sounds choreography and showmanship. I'm 69 and get winded just watching them. However, I've been a Southern Gospel fan since the'50s, and remember the great (also choreographed) antics of Jake, Hovie, and the Statesmen, as well as the neon colored suits and loud striped ties of the Blackwood Brothers, and the comedic emceeing of Glenn Payne. Maybe not quite as frenetic as EHSS, but for the times, they were just as radical. Got a lot of complaints back then, too, but they filled the house.

I believe we owe Bill Gaither a HUGE thank you for getting some of the old timers on tape and video before we lost them. It had been done before, but not nearly as well. Anybody remember the black and white TV show of Bob Poole?

With regard to your average age "61" comment, what was the average age of the NQC attendees? Further, what do you think is the average age of attendees at any SGM event? By the way, I am 67 and EH&SSQ don't light my fire; however, they are attracting young people to SGM and, for that reason, I thank God for them!!!

You're right, AVFL reader, it's unfair in my opinion as well that Jeff and Sheri are blamed. And I agree, I'm sure if Charlotte felt she were being treated badly she would have left a long time ago.

Well then, I don't really understand the fairness in people saying that Jeff and Sheri don't "let" her sing...you would think if that were the case, then Charlotte wouldn't still be with them.

With the mention of what the Nelons have been up to lately, I was reminded of another former Homecoming performer who has sort of slipped from prominent view. I hadn't heard anything lately about Candy Christmas, but I have discovered that she now performs weekly under a bridge in Nashville, which is a far cry from the venues frequented by the Gaither Homecoming crew:

"If you are in the Nashville, TN area you can see Candy appear EVERY Tuesday and Thursday nights. On Tuesday night, come join Candy's Bridge Ministry under the Jefferson Street Bridge at 6 PM and on Thursday nights at 6 PM come to the First Wesleyan Church on Shelby Street! For more information on this, contact Candy's office at candy@candychristmas.com or call 615-855-2611"

Yes, it's up to Gaither himself to decide if Charlotte sings each night on a Homecoming concert. Gaither actually picks the songs for the artists to sing as well, or so I hear. Sometimes he calls for Charlotte to sing a song from her solo project, sometimes he doesn't. It's really not up to Jeff and Sheri.

I have noticed that Charlotte always performs her own songs whenever it is just the Easters' solo dates. I believe that it isn't a Jeff and Sheri decision on a Gaither tour...anyone else agree?

I have thought for a long time that the Easters need to give Charlotte a chance to sing. She pretty much is there for window dressing (both in music, and whether she is there for this or not, looks :-) )

Lowry's humor was REALLY funny at times (when he would spout off and harrass Bill.) Other times he was annoying. :-)
At times I thought that Williams and Webb both used lines that would fit Lowry really well. Although both are funny and say funny things, neither guy though comes close to the delivery that Mark has.

The Nelons are working with their church, Grace Baptist in Smyrna, GA. Kelly is also working at the christian school. I grew up listening to Kelly and think she is one of the best. I wish they would start traveling again. I think they had a pretty good sound with Jason, Kelly and Amber. I did see an advertisement in the Feb. SN that they were appearing somewhere. It's the first time I've seen any mention of them in a couple of years.

We ordered the new EHSSQ dvd, Get Away Jordan, and finally received it yesterday. As I said earlier, I'd rather listen than watch and after watching it last night I am not too sure I want to even listen now. This is my opinion only....The only time I didn't feel entertained was when GVB took the stage. What a professional group and they proved once again you don't have to dance, move, whistle, or whatever it is they do, to get your message across. I think EH should stick with Gaither because he knows how to promote them. With all the "little flashlights" and "confetti", and then throwing water on EH at the end, I felt like I was at a high school performing arts show, course the water could only help Earnies suit. I think Earnie struggles with the emcee part also. I'm sure this all sounds harsh, but, again it is my feelings only. I am not judging their lives, just how they present themselves on stage. I'm sure they would do differently in a church. I'm just not sure they even sing in churches anymore. I think they did a superb job on Lovest Thou Me and He Touched Me, but need to leave Get Away Jordan to the Dove Brothers.

Give a listen to Charlotte's CD "Closer". You are in for a treat!
This album showcases her voice and some pretty good songwriting - maybe not as "Southern" as some would hope, but if you can set aside that bias, you will find a true blessing, the album is well arranged and beautifully sung.
Too bad the link to her label's website is DEAD (as of 1/29/07, anyway) C'mon Bob, get with the program!

I have to agree with JB, the Dove Brothers Get Away Jordan is far superior to EHSS arrangement! I would rather listen to EHSS than watch, there is just too much choreography for me personally.

Good to know I am not the only one who feels Charlotte Richie is a terrific and underutilized singer.

At the Lexington, KY Send a Kid to Kamp Radiothon years and yars ago, back when it was very good, I caught the Nelons who had these 2 new terrific singing young gals, Charlotte and Tammy, and was blown away how awesome the Nelons had suddenly become. What a huge, HUGE mistake when they got rid of the girls and the other guy (can't remember which White brother at this time) and brought back Kelly. Not to mention, I talked to Charlotte a few times and she was a super sweet lady.

Here's yet another Charlotte fan who would like to hear more of her voice.

Not to mention, I talked to Charlotte a few times and she was a super sweet lady.

Here’s yet another Charlotte fan who would like to hear more of her voice.

Great review: I agree with some of the others about EHSSQ. I would rather listen and not watch. I did hear their version of Get Away Jordan yesterday on XM radio. Sorry, but they don't hold a candle to Dove Bros. version of it. I also think Charlotte R. has an awesome voice, but, is only used as a backup singer. Easters could be so much better if they used her to her fullest. I have heard rumors about why the Isaacs are not with Gaither. Does anyone know why? We recently bought the GVB Give It Away dvd. We were blown away by the sound and their harmony. My son asked "what will happen to them when something happens to Bill". I said "they will get a great bass singer and really be good".

Yeah, I would like to know what The Nelons are up to as well...their site hasnt been updated in a while. Charlotte Ritchie is one of my favorite singers ever!! I love her solo cd's and yes, I think Jeff and Sheri need to use her, she can enhance and make songs her own SOOOOO well.

Speaking of the Nelons, anybody know the latest? Their website has no tour/conference dates (nor does Singing News) and the most recent news item dates back to 2004. Is the limitless "limited supply" package the most recent update?
