AGM in China?

Alert reader MM scores a twofer: Triumphant Quartet decided to get saved … er, I mean, certified by the high priests of the American Gospel Music enterprises, which means they can now start telling people about all the places they might sing … including maybe China?

By achieving the status of Certified American Gospel Music Artist numerous opportunities become available. AGM artists may have the opportunity to perform at the American Gospel Music Festival held this May in Dallas, Texas ( Other performance opportunities might include appearances in concert at Carnegie Hall in New York, the Sydney Opera House in Sydney, Australia, and the National Theater of the Forbidden City in Beijing, China.

Call it Public Relations in the conditional tense: AGM artists may have the opportunity to perform at concerts that might include China … And maybe I’ll hold my breath.

Next thing you know, AGM will be claiming to have 1.2 billion international fans.

Why not? We already have SG groups that “sell out the west coast.”

Not sure if anyone else would agree, but what bothered me most about this bit of news, if you want to call it that, was this sentence: “This certification is awarded to only those upper echelon Gospel artists that have demonstrated a stellar history of excellence in musical performance and ministry effectiveness.”
Just makes you feel like your nose is getting rubbed all in it, in my opinion. It gives the impression that they are trying to be or are just wanting others to think that they are better than everyone else in the ministry.

From what I hear the cost of joining is a mere $10,000 and then a yearly fee after that. Who’s gonna benifit from that ???? It’s a big shame when more and more groups have to buy their way into popularity or to get someone in the industry to take notice……what is Southern Gospel becoming ????
