Wither the GMA week sg concert?

It feels like I ask this every year around this time, but is there going to be the annual Southern Gospel Music Guild’s Tuesday night concert at the Hyatt during GMA week? I’ve seen no advertisement or announcements for it, and it’s getting close enough (a week and a half) that one would expect to have seen something by now. If this weren’t very typically the southern gospel way - wait till the last minute, rely on word of mouth, and have the same 50 people show up as last year - I’d be shocked. As it is, I’m just confused - and disappointed, since GMA week is really a chance to re-present the music to the wider world of Christian entertainment. Done right, the concert could really showcase the raft of first-rate Dove award nominees from southern-gospel. That’s probably way too much to ask for though, I realize.

Anyway, anybody got the details on all this?

Very quick update: ok looks like this “Harmony Honors concert celebration,” whatever that means, is taking the place of the Tuesday night concert. There’s an “all-star lineup” of “honorees,” but no word on who will actually perform (that’s like saying, avfl has an “all-star line-up groups discussed”). So I’m not getting my hopes up just yet. And if the Guild website is the only place the Honors of Harmony concert is announced, I may be one of the only people there. Performing artists are, as NoName points out, uhm, pictured right there on the page, and as GospelMusicFan notes, the story got lost in the shuffle of other more interesting stuff a while back. Now that he mentions it, I recall passing my eyes over that story when it came out, but I also recall it seeming like yet another variation on the “everybody’s a winner” awards/celebration show that sg is so fond of, rather than an event “designed to showcase the best in Southern Gospel music … and expose individuals who attend to an amazing night of Gospel music.” So maybe this is more about my own biases than anything else, given how crummy the Guild’s GMA week concerts have been the last year or two. I guess this one could be different, but then again it also includes the giving out of Harmony Honor certificates and Compassion International will be prominently featured again too, it looks like. So who knows. Anyway, to quote Bart Simpson, “there’s your answer, fishbulb.”

ACTUALLY at the TOP of the ad, you can see “PERFORMING ARTISTS” listed….so I suppose those are the ones performing???

    Once again, timing is everything.
This story got lost in the excitement some of bigger and active stories early this month.
Stories like Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels giving Bill & Gloria Gaither an award, Jason Waldroup to leaving Greater Vision
and counting the numbers of alumni in the class of the Gaither Vocal Band.

Thanks for clearing this up…I was wondering about this myself and was a bit confused. The concert was mentioned in a sidebar in GMA’s weekly e-mail to members, which is how I learned about it.

So, we go from YOU having missed the story to it being “yet another variation on the “everybody’s a winner” awards/celebration show that sg is so fond of, rather than an event “designed to showcase the best in Southern Gospel music … and expose individuals who attend to an amazing night of Gospel music.”

Maybe you were right when you said “maybe this is more about my own biases than anything else”. I’ve been to the last 2 or 3 sg showcases at GMA, as well as last year’s Harmony Awards program, and IMHO, they were all pretty good shows.

I’m not sure what you were expecting. Flashdance?
