Queen of Scold

When we last left our regularly scheduled blogging, the discussion was partly centered on suboptimal sound at live concert venues. Which made this note from avfl reader Jrod especially timely. Jrod was in NYC during NQC listening to the Queen of Soul Herself and he sent back this report:

Aretha is beyond everything that you can imagine in person. … She actually stopped the concert at one point to call out the sound man from the stage b/c of some static in her monitors. She turned, pointed at him and berated him for his inability to be as perfect as she is.

Sing it with me now … R-E-S-P-E-C-T …

Once, at a singing where “Charles Johnson and the revivers were featured”, The sound tech was continually giving feedback in the monitors by the gains being just too high….Charles Johnson kicked his stand down, cussed a blue streak in the mic and left.
    True story.

Jrod… did they have the ac turned off for this show??? Seems like I heard the only thing bad about going to see her is that they cannot have the air on 8 hours before her performance.

Actually Wade, it was an outdoor show, but I can tell you there was no lack of perspiration on Aretha’s end. At one point she did look to her main stage servant and demanded that he calm the winds. She is a force.

Jrod… thanks for the addition info. I am sure The Winds Calmed.

That is one miserable prima dona. She’s totally out of control. She pitched a fit when Beyonce referred to Tina Turner as “The Queen of Soul”…since everyone KNOWS that she alone holds that title. Thank goodness she can still sing, cause there would be no reason to endure her otherwise.
