Shorter Emily Sutherland (h/t, dmp): Wondering about stuff that makes Homecoming look good is just what faithful Christians do. Wondering about stuff we don’t want to talk about is gossipy and unChristian.

Hmmm. I read Ms. Sutherland’s post, and as usual, she’s a very good writer and her essay linked here is no exception.

I see both sides to this story. She’s right in saying that singers’ lives are their own. I yield her that point. But, as a blogger, she has to know that a site like this that welcomes most comments will pick up on - and make a lot of hay with - anything that’s been treated as vaguely as Guy’s departure has been. It probably frustrates them, especially if there’s no real story here other than a change of direction for Guy. But, on a site that revolves around titillating gossip and speculation, she just HAS to know that it was bound to happen. Had the initial pressers been even a little bit more specific, we might not “be here”.

Still, she raises a good point, and above all else, we should be praying for Guy and his family, that they’ll grow together and in the Lord, and receive real direction from the Lord as to what’s next.

    Guy info???…

I know why he left… but believe me it is not going to be out WHY Guy left. As much as I would like to tell you I can’t.

For the same reasons Dr. DH will not allow me to post OTHER things about the Gaither Kingdom I know he will not allow me to post this too!!

It is good and it is about POWER is all I will say!!! I think it is amusing to ALL the trouble they are going to keep this story suppressed!!

While I believe Dr. DH and myself would ultimately be protected by free speech adjudication’s it could still cost MUCHO $$$ to do so. I don’t have it and Dr. DH does not want to waste the vast wealth he has built up from years of being a Professor!! lol

    But believe me…it’s GOOD!!

I’m glad Guy Penrod is gone. The GVB had more style before Guy showed up. Used to be A GVB CD was strong all the way through. Now you have to skip through half of these slow boring country songs. Hopefully with Mike English back, they can get some fun songs like “Things Over My Head,” “Every Day Every Hour” “Come let Us Go”

Your post reminds me of a lesson from a Sunday School teacher of my youth. I did an internet search and found this story that pretty much sums up her point:
A LITTLE boy one day ran indoors from school and called out eagerly: “Oh, mother, what do you think of Tom Jones? I have just heard that ——”

“Wait a minute, my boy. Have you put what you have heard through the three sieves before you tell it to me?”

“Sieves, mother! What do you mean?”

“Well, the first sieve is called Truth. Is it true?”

“Well, I don’t really know, but Bob Brown said that Charlie told him that Tom ——”

“That’s very roundabout. What about the second sieve — Kindness. Is it kind?”

“Kind! No, I can’t say it is kind.”

“Now the third sieve — Necessity. Will it go through that? Must you tell this tale?”

“No, mother, I need not repeat it.”

“Well, then, my boy, if it is not necessary, not kind, and perhaps not true, let the story die.”

Now Wade, - your information may very well be true, but my Sunday School teacher always said it had to pass all 3 sieves, and I’m guessing “kind” and “necessary” don’t quite make it

Wade — and your assertion that the truth would cost you and/or Doug money is not plausable.

It still sounds like “I know something you don’t know. Na na na na boo boo.”

I think either you know something, and you want us to beg, or you know nothing, and just want us to believe you’re in the clique.

    Fess up! Which is it?

I think #7 is trying to bait Wade into telling! Based on what I know, I’d say Wade probably does know. There is no doubt that the story is bigger than a solo career. None of this happened when David or Mark or Russ left. Something happened, and while I have been told the general basics about it, I don’t have specifics. People who knew everything will tell you that they knew in October that he would not be back.
I just find it funny that the Gaither empire is going to such extremes to tell everyone to stop asking questions and to prove to us that they are still one big happy homecoming family (bringing Marshall back for a night and telling us he is not “mad,” Gaither saying he is not losing a friend in Guy though nobody asked…) . It is all very reminiscent of the child that says out of the blue “Mom, I didn’t take a cookie from the jar, so don’t even look…”

I think Wade knows something. Wade will you please just tell us. Will we see Guy Penrod in a Solo Career in the near future?

Irish Laddy… I do not have an email addy for you… wadecardwell@yahoo.com is mine. holl at me there and let me know it is you with the secret knock.

Seriously… I do have some good info. But I have tried to post other things on her about the Gaither Kingdom and it rightfully makes Dr. DH nervous because BG is a powerful man with a son in law as an attorney and several others on retainer I am sure. So if he would not allow me to post the OTHER info I know he would not allow this to post because it is really GOOD!!

But even tough Dr. DH and myself might win ultimately it could cost a fortune to defend ones self…so I can’t say I blame him or blast him like some others do when he moderates.

They ( BG Kingdom ) are going to alot of trouble to keep this quite…that tells me I do not want to be the one who first spills it. While I totally respect BG for what he does and the product he delivers most of the time and for the one time he kicked my butt already… I KNOW I WILL NOT BE the one to roll it out here… he has a LONG REACH.

There are SOME HUGE BG secrets that have not made it out to day light and if THOSE SECRETS did not make it out…THIS WILL NOT EITHER!! When THAT MUCH MONEY is involved ppl go to extreme lengths to keep it quite because the BG Gravy train feeds alot of ppl.

WARD thanks for the old sunday school lesson… but this ain’t sunday school or even a small group!!

I swear I am not trying to tweak any one like say NoN SG FAN would do by calling ppl Morons despite it being true!!!

Wade, if it’s a BIG secret, how’d you find out???? Just a question. Everyone knows that it ain’t all “peachy” in the BG realm of Glory, but, money sure has it’s way of doing things.

I don’t pretend to be in the circle, but I have friends who are and others who are close enough. No kool-aid. I think the man who makes Gaither angry can kiss much of his career goodbye…

I don’t expect to see guy anytime soon, but I think he will come around. He’ll be fine. But soon? He has no website, no myspace and not a peep out of him in 5 months… Not what you might expect from a man about to release a CD.

How can anyone make us “kiss [our] career goodbye” if we don’t really have a s/g career. I wouldn’t call what DH has a s/g career. He’s stated he “walked away” from all that.

    I guess I just don’t understand.

Maybe I should finish my last statement. I guess I just don’t understand what we have to lose, if we’re honest.

Sure, the “powers” can claim it’s slanderous, but if we tell the truth, isn’t that supposed to set us free?

So, why even talk about this great, wonderful, juicy “inside information” if you aren’t going to tell what it is? It’s like getting on here and saying, “I’ve got a secret but I’m not telling anyone.” What’s the point?

  18. dmp wrote:

Jake, I think it is less of a taunt and more of a confirmation of the fact that there is indeed a greater story out there. I think some still believe the “solo career” story, but those who know something more have simply stated that there is much more to it. In the end, it does taunt, but I don’t think it is the original intent.

Wade knows nothing. He probably knows a guy who did stage lighting for a show once who thinks he’s “in”, and told him what he “Thinks” he knows…Its ridiculous. Nobody comes onto a site and says “I know why he left” and then doesn’t say it for fear the moderator will take it off. Only a person who knows NOTHING would do that.

And Wade and the others do too….so they say…i’m not telling tho’ i promised Bill i wouldn’t tell that Guy was pursuing a solo career…not as a singer…but as a ‘topic for losers only subject’.
He makes his money through the hits…on forums like these. He’s making good money so i’ve heard…so keep on guessing and making up stories….he’s got a big family!

    Dumb & Dumber….the perpetual sequence.

Early on, when I heard about Guy and Marsh, I felt bad for them losing their jobs. I still do as far as how it affects them. I realize that Bill has the right to hire or keep who he wants. Something I never got into though, was how Michael English said in his book, that when Michael was unhappy when first joining and not getting to sing much on stage, Bill offered to replace him, but said he would keep paying him until he found something else. Seeing how honorably he handled that one, I would presume he has done the same here.

Marshall Hall is 100% class. Anyone would be fortunate to work with him.

  26. cynical one wrote:

Woody — from what little I’ve seen of Marshall, I believe you’re telling the truth. No matter what took place in the reorganization of GVB, I like’d to believe Bill acted honorably, especially since Marshall and Benji have been best friends for years. I can’t picture any dad hiring his son’s best friend, then firing him and hanging him out to dry.

Maybe Marshall, in a gentlemanly fashion, saw what was happening with Bill having to replace Guy, and offering to step down, so Bill could bring 3 former members back. Maybe Marshall wasn’t as comfortable in s/g as he appeared on stage and video. Maybe he really wants to do studio work. Maybe he wants to do p&w in his local church. Maybe he wasn’t really comfortable with the whole “celebrity” thing that goes with being in a group of this stature. Maybe he knew, with Guy gone, the dynamics were changing, and he feared the unknown. Maybe it was some of all the above, or none of the above.

Why don’t we just pick up the phone and call him, and ask him? We all seem to be such good friends. (Sorry, Woody, that wasn’t directed toward you. Just the rest of us nuts/fans who think we’re best buds with all the top-tier s/g artists.)

  27. wackythinker wrote:

Marshall hadn’t been with the group long enough for me to feel like a true fan. I liked his work, and really appreciated his voice and ability to blend. But his tenure was short. For my thinking, he wasn’t the “fixture” Guy was. Or David when he left. Or Michael when he left. Or Mark when he left.

As for Guy. I think we need to cut him some slack. I’m guessing there are things going on at home that needed his time and attention. And it could be anything. Left’s face it, his oldest boys are getting to the age where kids tend to leave the planet. Guy may have felt the need to spend more time with them.

In our evil, twisted minds, we want to assume there’s sin at the root of his departure. That may not be the case at all. It’s probably something much more mundane than that.

Whatever it is, we may as well shut up about it. If all parties have gone this long without spilling the beans, they’ll probably go much longer. I don’t think our cussing and discussing it will make them want to tell it any sooner. If anything, it’ll probably prolong the silence.

    Here’s a thought:

    Let’s not deify these artists.

Let’s not assume that any of them are being dumped on by the big bad Bill Gaither.

Instead, let’s assume that just like any job, some people need to move on because they need to move on — because they aren’t quite as happy there anymore, because they’re not the fit they hoped for, because they’re bored or restless, because there’s no room for advancement, because God has a better spot open for them and they need to leave to be available for it, etc.

For those who have crazy attachments to having artists in certain roles in specific groups, get over it. Let them move on. God will use them as He will.

And let US move on to talk about great songs, or new projects!
