Here's a thought:

Let's not deify these artists.

Let's not assume that any of them are being dumped on by the big bad Bill Gaither.

Instead, let's assume that just like any job, some people need to move on because they need to move on -- because they aren't quite as happy there anymore, because they're not the fit they hoped for, because they're bored or restless, because there's no room for advancement, because God has a better spot open for them and they need to leave to be available for it, etc.

For those who have crazy attachments to having artists in certain roles in specific groups, get over it. Let them move on. God will use them as He will.

And let US move on to talk about great songs, or new projects!

Marshall hadn't been with the group long enough for me to feel like a true fan. I liked his work, and really appreciated his voice and ability to blend. But his tenure was short. For my thinking, he wasn't the "fixture" Guy was. Or David when he left. Or Michael when he left. Or Mark when he left.

As for Guy. I think we need to cut him some slack. I'm guessing there are things going on at home that needed his time and attention. And it could be anything. Left's face it, his oldest boys are getting to the age where kids tend to leave the planet. Guy may have felt the need to spend more time with them.

In our evil, twisted minds, we want to assume there's sin at the root of his departure. That may not be the case at all. It's probably something much more mundane than that.

Whatever it is, we may as well shut up about it. If all parties have gone this long without spilling the beans, they'll probably go much longer. I don't think our cussing and discussing it will make them want to tell it any sooner. If anything, it'll probably prolong the silence.

Woody -- from what little I've seen of Marshall, I believe you're telling the truth. No matter what took place in the reorganization of GVB, I like'd to believe Bill acted honorably, especially since Marshall and Benji have been best friends for years. I can't picture any dad hiring his son's best friend, then firing him and hanging him out to dry.

Maybe Marshall, in a gentlemanly fashion, saw what was happening with Bill having to replace Guy, and offering to step down, so Bill could bring 3 former members back. Maybe Marshall wasn't as comfortable in s/g as he appeared on stage and video. Maybe he really wants to do studio work. Maybe he wants to do p&w in his local church. Maybe he wasn't really comfortable with the whole "celebrity" thing that goes with being in a group of this stature. Maybe he knew, with Guy gone, the dynamics were changing, and he feared the unknown. Maybe it was some of all the above, or none of the above.

Why don't we just pick up the phone and call him, and ask him? We all seem to be such good friends. (Sorry, Woody, that wasn't directed toward you. Just the rest of us nuts/fans who think we're best buds with all the top-tier s/g artists.)

Early on, when I heard about Guy and Marsh, I felt bad for them losing their jobs. I still do as far as how it affects them. I realize that Bill has the right to hire or keep who he wants. Something I never got into though, was how Michael English said in his book, that when Michael was unhappy when first joining and not getting to sing much on stage, Bill offered to replace him, but said he would keep paying him until he found something else. Seeing how honorably he handled that one, I would presume he has done the same here.

Let's just say Bill Gaither is positively the good guy in all this. That is the absolute, unvarnished truth.

Hahaha...this is funny...i actually know something about the deal with Guy.......why he left...and if he's going solo...and if he's still chums with BG.
And Wade and the others do too....so they say...i'm not telling tho' i promised Bill i wouldn't tell that Guy was pursuing a solo career...not as a singer...but as a 'topic for losers only subject'.
He makes his money through the hits...on forums like these. He's making good money so i've heard...so keep on guessing and making up stories....he's got a big family!

Dumb & Dumber....the perpetual sequence.

Wade knows nothing. He probably knows a guy who did stage lighting for a show once who thinks he's "in", and told him what he "Thinks" he knows...Its ridiculous. Nobody comes onto a site and says "I know why he left" and then doesn't say it for fear the moderator will take it off. Only a person who knows NOTHING would do that.

Jake, I think it is less of a taunt and more of a confirmation of the fact that there is indeed a greater story out there. I think some still believe the "solo career" story, but those who know something more have simply stated that there is much more to it. In the end, it does taunt, but I don't think it is the original intent.

So, why even talk about this great, wonderful, juicy "inside information" if you aren't going to tell what it is? It's like getting on here and saying, "I've got a secret but I'm not telling anyone." What's the point?

Maybe I should finish my last statement. I guess I just don't understand what we have to lose, if we're honest.

Sure, the "powers" can claim it's slanderous, but if we tell the truth, isn't that supposed to set us free?

How can anyone make us "kiss [our] career goodbye" if we don't really have a s/g career. I wouldn't call what DH has a s/g career. He's stated he "walked away" from all that.

I guess I just don't understand.
